Basic Info
Name:Ellen Dunkel
Bio
@#%$ logic. I'm a female bisexual duplicate of Elliot, and I can shoot green rays of light from my hands, and I'm fighting a blob of goop. Logic has nothing to do with any of this.

[IC Information]
Character Name: Ellen Dunkel
Series: El Goonish Shive
Gender: It's complicated Female.
Age: Physically and mentally 17; chronologically a couple of weeks old
Species: Human
Sexuality: Female-leaning bisexual
Appearance: Ellen is a rather cute brunette female; to the casual observer, it would be difficult to believe her form was based off that of a male. She's about average height for her age; her hair is a few inches below her shoulders, and her bangs hang to the sides of her face. In her "Venus" form (more on that below) she's the same height, but her hair grows down to the back of her knees and her bangs to the length of her normal hair, and her figure is more filled-out; her breasts grow at least two cup sizes.
Personality: At its base, Ellen's personality is that of her "twin brother", Elliot -- calm, rational, collected, but with a strong sense of justice and desire to protect her friends. However, Ellen is a bit more outgoing and childish than Elliot. She thinks nothing of glomp-hugging people in greeting, or at swatting ponytails like a cat would. Actually, Ellen is sort of an amalgam of Elliot's personality and that of an alternate-universe version of herself, who grew up in a world populated by humans, aliens, and half-alien-half-human hybrids. It's a wonder she's as mentally stable as she is. Oh, and she's also described herself as "outgoing but secretive"; despite her happy personality, she won't get into details of her backstory with anyone who's not a very close friend. For one thing, it would make her look like a freak. For another, she could easily wind up getting hauled off to some government testing facility.
Abilities: To start with, Elliot is the second-highest-ranked student at Sensei Greg's Anime-Style Martial Arts School, and though she hasn't attended since she was created, Ellen inherited his skill. Their signature move is called Tamashii Gekido (Soul Fury), a generic chi-based attack that does mild damage to its target. Obviously, the strength of Tamashii Gekido and Ellen's other chi-based techniques will be severely dulled in Manhattan.

Ellen also has other abilities as a result of her birth, however; she can fire green beams of light from her hands, which can stun her opponents briefly but which don't actually do damage. Instead, they inflict what is called "Female Variant #5" -- males become females, and females become longer-haired bigger-boobed females (called the "Venus" form). She can also use this beam on herself. Someone who's hit with the beam has heterosexuality added to their sexual orientation; so a straight male or lesbian would become a bisexual female; an asexual of either gender would become a heterosexual female; gay males, straight females, and bisexuals of either gender would not have an altered orientation at all. However, in Manhattan, she'll find that the beam will only affect herself.
Weaknesses: Powerful sneezes or other involuntary reflexes may cause Ellen to unleash her V-5 beam accidentally. Her main personality weakness is her spontaneity, something she inherited from Elliot, though he doesn't display it half as often as she does. Ellen can leap into things without thinking the consequences through fully, leading to disaster. Also, though she tries to hide it, she's still a little insecure about her origin; she's glad that Elliot's friends were open and accepting of her, but she's still getting over the fact that Elliot's life isn't hers, his girlfriend isn't hers (even if she's now dating Elliot's gay ex-girlfriend), and she's a completely different person, not even the same gender she has seventeen years' worth of memories of being.
Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider
History: Once there was a high school student named Elliot Dunkel. Elliot was a pretty ordinary guy; had a good family, a hot girlfriend, a spot in an epic martial arts school where he learns Anime-Style Martial Arts, which involves "Participating in difficult, overly complex and fairly ridiculous activities that shouldn't yield such fantastic results and yet somehow do." ...Well, maybe Elliot wasn't completely normal. There was the time his best friend Tedd Verres accidentally brought a blob of goo to life in his high school science class, but who can really be blamed for that? Anyway, after Elliot and Tedd defeated the evil goo monster, a mysterious girl calling herself Grace showed up at Tedd's doorstep, having read about Tedd's strange accomplishment in the newspaper. Grace sought refuge from her "brothers", a group of men who were animal/human hybrids just like her, blah blah... but this bio isn't about Grace.

Aside from bringing goo to life, Tedd has worked on many other disturbing scientific projects, including a transformation gun that can turn people into animals or even other people. One day, Tedd turned himself into a girl (as he does often) and then the gun broke. Not wanting Grace, who he was smitten with, to see him with boobs, Tedd hightailed it over to Elliot's house to fix the gun, but once he had, he accidentally zapped Elliot with Female Variant #5, turning Elliot into a hot chick. Before he could turn Elliot back to normal, though, the gun broke irreparably. What's worse, Variant #5 lasts for a month, so it would be that long before Elliot would change back on his own. TO MAKE THINGS MORE COMPLICATED, Elliot's friend Sarah was on her way over because Elliot had just broken up with his girlfriend Nanase and finally gotten up the courage to tell Sarah he was in love with her. Yay!

...so Elliot decided to go to school for the next month as "Ellen", passing himself off as Elliot's cousin from out of town who wanted to keep up with her studies while she was visiting (and also Elliot was sick and would be out of school until he felt better). Miraculously, all his classmates bought it.

Meanwhile, Grace did some research to find a way to end the effects of Female Variant #5 early and came across the legend of the Dewitchery Diamond, which could separate a cursed person from his curse. The Diamond was being held at the nearby governmental "Paranormal Things That Are Of Little Use to Anyone Storage Facility". LUCKILY, Tedd's father works for the government, and the storage facility is so low-priority that Tedd actually had the clearance to enter the building. Yay! Elliot and Tedd headed for the storage facility, which was only guarded by a single elderly security guard who constantly watched the front door, and quickly found the diamond. Elliot touched the diamond, and then disaster struck. He was indeed returned to male form, but in the process, a new person was created: The physical manifestation of Female Variant #5 as applied to Elliot; a girl his age with his personality and all his memories. This new person, Ellen, promptly freaked out, convinced that because of FV5's time limit, she was going to die in less than a month. She managed to convince herself, though, that she would live because she actually wasn't the physical manifestation of FV5 applied to Elliot, but actually his evil twin. In her temporary insanity, Ellen stole Elliot's car and drove off back to town in hopes of wreaking havoc and framing Elliot. Meanwhile, Elliot and Tedd were captured by the security guard and tossed into a holding cell. There, the guard gave Tedd an old journal to read to pass the time. The journal belonged to a man who had been a werewolf and who had also used the Dewitchery Diamond. As it turned out, the wolf half of him had not disappeared when the sun rose, proving that Ellen would not disappear when Elliot's FV5 was supposed to run out. Shortly after that, Elliot and Tedd were released from the holding cell and motored it back to town with the help of a mysterious stranger who would later wind up being important to Grace's plotline.

Ellen made it back to town in time to change into a suit and head to school, where she attempted to wreak havoc. However, nothing she did seemed to get "Elliot" in trouble. When she cut class to make lewd remarks in the girls' dressing room, the student who confronted her refused to "narc". When she tried giving an impromptu speech on PMS to her English class, her teacher approved the subject. After finally going off on a football player and the school principal, Ellen caught the attention of Sarah, and ran off to hide in the bathroom. Sarah followed her, thinking she was Elliot, and told her that she still loved "him", even if "he" was a girl for the next few weeks. Crying, Ellen kissed Sarah and bid her farewell. Luckily, any awkwardness was avoided by the sudden reappearance of the goo monster, now bigger and scarier than ever! Ellen blamed the goo for her creation and tried to single-handedly fight it, but was only able to defeat it with the help of Nanase and Grace. During the fight, Ellen discovered she had the power to shoot zappy green beams of light from her hands. They didn't do much against the goo monster, though, because they're beams that carry her curse, Female Variant #5.

With the goo defeated and Ellen aware that she would not die in a month, the entire group headed over to Tedd's house with his father, who had conveniently shown up. Thanks to his government position, Mr. Verres had the job of covering up how Ellen was created, but despite worry from both Elliot and Ellen, he wasn't interested in killing Ellen or locking her up. Still, Ellen was distraught over the fact that she had all of Elliot's memories and yet wasn't Elliot. After being comforted by Nanase, Ellen seemed okay, though she managed to get revenge on Tedd by zapping him into a girl. Ellen was passed off as Elliot's twin sister; Elliot's parents didn't really mind suddenly having a daughter, as Mrs. Dunkel had always wanted one anyway. Ellen was given some downtime from school while her enrollment at the town's other high school was processed; she couldn't attend Elliot's school because everyone there thought she was his cousin.

All was well! Ellen embraced her new life as Elliot's sister and as a bisexual female. But it doesn't stop there. After a complicated plot involving Grace's backstory, Ellen was approached by a mysterious woman named Nioi. According to Nioi, when Ellen was created, a brand-new soul entered her body, which isn't good since that would make her a seventeen-year-old with the soul of a baby. To fix the problem, Nioi beeped Ellen on the nose. For the next few days, Ellen started having dreams in which she was living out the life of an alternate-universe version of herself, pretty much like her own childhood but with aliens added in. Therefore, in addition to Elliot's childhood memories, Ellen now has the memories of an alternate-universe Ellen, which is sure to cause no end to her confusion once she starts high school and has to take history classes; after all, in the alternate universe, the Revolutionary War was fought by not only humans but also by aliens called Uryuoms.

ANYWAY, once her "second life" dreams ended, Ellen told her friends about them, and they took them pretty well. They'd have to, for a group including a shapeshifting squirrel girl, a magic-user who can transfer her consciousness into a fairy, and oh yeah, Tedd. (Plus, everyone was genderswapped at the time.) Shortly afterward, Ellen sat down and had a heart-to-heart talk with Nanase, who she'd been having feelings for, and told her of an incident in her dream life where she'd coerced a male classmate into sleeping with her, and said it made her realize that while she was technically bisexual because of the effects of the transformation gun on Elliot, the attraction to males felt like something tacked on, like a "poorly written side note". She'd been playing up the male-attracted side of herself to kind of overcompensate, to separate herself from Elliot, but by now, she'd realized that for all intents and purposes, she was actually a lesbian. After a few complications, Ellen and Nanase kissed and declared themselves a couple, though they could only be so in secret because of Nanase's overbearingly conservative mother.

On her way to Tedd and Grace's house the first morning of school, Ellen took a wrong turn down a dark side street and wound up on the streets of Manhattan. When she got out of her/Elliot's car to take a look around, she found that the car had vanished the instant she turned around.
